Keasbey man charged with shooting murder of Edison man

Arrest warrant for Igor Kirilenko. MIDDLESEX COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE/Court Documents
EDISON, N.J., Feb. 23 (ZFJ) — Igor Kirilenko, 61, of Keasbey, N.J., has been charged with the murder of Gregory Ginzburg, 72, of Edison on Sunday, Feb. 16.
On Feb. 16, at 6:39 p.m., Edison police responded to Clive Hills Road following a 911 call from Ginzburg saying that Kirilenko was in his house with a firearm. Dispatch heard a loud noise, believed to be a gunshot, during the call.
Arriving officers “encountered an emotional female in distress” as well as Kirilenko in the kitchen standing next to the victim lying on the floor with a fatal gunshot wound to the head, according to a detective’s affidavit.
Kirilenko threw a handgun onto the kitchen table, as ordered by police, before he was detained. As he was being escorted away from the scene, police say that he kicked the victim, explaining that he wanted to make sure that he was dead.
The woman told police that she had been in the kitchen with Ginzburg when Kirilenko entered through the rear door and shot him. She said that Ginzburg called 911 and Kirilenko stayed in the kitchen until police detained him.
Police found surveillance footage showing Kirilenko’s vehicle in the area. The vehicle was located parked in Ginzburg’s driveway.
Police recovered two handguns in the kitchen where Ginzburg was found after processing the scene. A check found that Kirilenko had multiple firearms registered to him, including the ones recovered at the scene.
Edison police officers say that, while at the hospital with Kirilenko, he said “I hope I killed him,” according to the criminal complaint.
Ginzburg was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday, Feb. 17, Kirilenko was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose. He was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
The investigation is active and continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Clint Hetzell of the Edison Police Department at (732) 248-7560 or Detective Olivia Ankudowicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745- 8083.
The charges against the defendant are merely accusations, and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
