EDISON, N.J., Dec. 28 (ZFJ) — Water has been restored to most residences affected by the water main break on Thursday, Dec. 26, according to Mayor Sam Joshi.

This incident has been one of Edison’s largest water main breaks, impacting about 20,000 residents.

In a statement posted to social media yesterday afternoon, Joshi said that 99% of impacted water supplies have been restored. The boil advisory will remain in effect until lab results come back safe, which he says can take up to 48 hours.

Water pressure readings are at an average of 50 PSI in the highest elevated areas of town. Readings are normal if they are between 54-60 PSI.

Utility crews will fix individual water meters that leak due to air bubbles and a sudden rise of water pressure.

Joshi reported that the township distributed 7,000 gallons of water to affected residents.

A statement posted at 5:18 p.m. today by Joshi reports that about 100 residences are still affected by low to no water pressure. Edison Water Utility (EWU) crews have been excavating an area to put in a line stop at the 20-inch main to stop water flow to the area of the break. Once the flow has stopped, the area will be drained for repairs.

EWU has assessed a leaking valve in the area of Edison High School and does not believe it is contributing to low water pressure.

Restroom facilities ceased operation yesterday night. Water distribution centers are scheduled to remain open until 10:00 p.m. today.

Residents can call the Edison police dispatch at (732) 248-7400 with questions or concerns regarding leaky meters.
