June 19 (ZFJ) — Starting from 2024-2025, College Board will revise the course content and exams for its four AP Physics courses for better alignment with corresponding introductory college courses and better communication of the knowledge required for the exams.
One of the most notable course updates for AP Physics 1 is the addition of a new unit: Fluids, which was previously part of AP Physics 2. As such, Fluids will no longer be part of the AP Physics 2 curriculum. The AP Physics 1 exam has also undergone minor changes, with a decrease in the number of MCQs (50 to 40) and FRQs (5 to 4).
While there are no major content changes for the AP Physics C courses, both their exams will receive major changes. While there will be a slight increase in the number of MCQs (35 to 40) and FRQs (3 to 4), the total times for each section will increase to allow more time for each question. Section I (MCQs) time will increase from 45 to 80 minutes, and Section II (FRQs) time will increase from 45 to 100 minutes. In addition, each of the AP Physics C courses (Mechanics and E&M) will no longer share the same session in the exam schedule.
All AP Physics exams will no longer use multiselect questions.
During the summer of 2024, College Board will begin training teachers on the revised course and exam descriptions and begin adding updated resources to AP Classroom. The revised courses and exams will be put into effect starting from fall 2024.
