SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J., Nov. 30 (ZFJ) — Authorities have accused Om Brahmbhatt, 23, of fatally shooting three of his family members on Monday at the Traditions condominium complex.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Brahmbhatt with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

According to an affidavit submitted by the police to establish probable cause for an arrest warrant, South Plainfield Police Department officers responded to a 911 call on Monday, Nov. 27, reporting that three people had been shot.

The police found Dilipkumar and Bindu Brahmbhatt, both 72, in one bedroom. Each had one apparent gunshot wound to the head.

They also found Yashkumar Brahmbhatt, 38, in a rear bedroom with multiple apparent gunshot wounds in his upper body. Since he was still possibly breathing, EMS transported him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Dilipkumar and Bindu Brahmbhatt were Om Brahmbhatt’s grandparents, while Yashkumar Brahmbhatt was his uncle.

Officers met Om Brahmbhatt, the 911 caller, at the scene. He said that he resides at the Coppola Drive residence, was present during the shooting, and stated “it might be me,” according to the detective who submitted the affidavit. After he was advised of his Miranda rights, he said he did not want to make further statements.

Police found a gun holster on Om Brahmbhatt. In an initial search of the condo, they found a firearm suspected to have been used in the killings.

At police headquarters, Om Brahmbhatt waived his Miranda rights and explained what happened. He told police that he bought a gun online, shot Dilipkumar and Bindu Brahmbhatt in their heads while they were sleeping, and then shot Yashkumar Brahmbhatt multiple times. He said he then called 911 to report the shooting.

Police have not commented on a motive for the domestic violence.
