Jan. 17 (ZFJ) — The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in 2025, according to an announcement from the video game company on Thursday, Jan. 16.

Nintendo offered a look at the highly-anticipated successor to the Nintendo Switch in a trailer that rocketed to over 14 million views within 17 hours and became the top trending video on YouTube.

The Switch 2 will support Switch 2 exclusive games as well as some, but not necessarily all, physical and digital Switch games. Nintendo will share details on its website at a later date.

Nintendo will reveal more details in a Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Switch 2 on Wednesday, April 2.

It will also hold Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events in its stores in cities worldwide. A free Nintendo account is required to participate, and ticket registrations will begin in the “near future.”

Nintendo stock rose ahead of the announcement and closed on Wednesday at $15.64. The stock dropped 4.99% to close at $14.86 the following day.
